Path to Home

Project type: PAINTING

Date: February 2023

This painting was inspired by an internal monologue while on an ordinary drive. So often our mind races with thoughts of things we have yet to do (or forgot to do), important deadlines, weekend plans, etc. This piece was a playful take on the childhood car game of “What do you see outside the car window?” Taking pictures of those familiar places and scenes helped me notice patterns. Rather than portray them in a straightforward manner, I chose an abstract approach to what most would consider a routine car ride. The color palette had to be bold and the graffiti attempts to balance the abstract and straight lines. Physically sitting in the car, the path home is mundane but in my mind it is much more chaotic and unconventional.
