Behind the Product

Project type: INSTALLATION

Date: February 2023

This installation piece exposes the reality of sweatshops in third-world countries, where children are often the silent victims of mass production. Spray-painted letters spell out the message, in a deliberately bold and confrontational way, trying to grab the viewer's attention. The thread faces and curtains symbolize the child laborers who become puppets in the name of profit. Shredded thread and curtains illustrate the distress and toll on the children drawn into this cycle. The cardboard and recycled jeans used to construct a shoe represent the clothing industry and its products, while the Nike box underscores the surplus of shoes, a reminder of the sweatshop scandal that remains a grave concern in our world. Behind the Product serves as a powerful reminder of the exploitation of children in the global manufacturing industry, urging us to recognize and address this pressing issue.
